Here’s why job candidates should be so excited about the current market.
Today I want to talk a little bit about the war for talent and how it’s grown over the years. Who would have imagined a year or two ago that we would be in a market like this? We’re seeing such extremes in hiring levels, from the lowest of lows last spring to the highest of highs right now. I don’t think I’ve ever been tasked with locating so many different people for so many different opportunities.

Yes, it’s a good time for recruiting, but it’s also a hard time for us and our customers. If you’re a candidate, this is probably one of the best times ever to start looking for an opportunity if you see a need for change. Even if you’re wanting to enter the marketplace as an entry-level candidate, it’s still an excellent time. I only see these numbers improving for candidates over the next year.
As companies started laying off workers last spring, a lot were in the service or hospitality industries. At the same time, the need for manufacturing help went way up. Many of our manufacturing clients are operating at all-time highs. Our construction materials industry, cement industry, and industrial minerals industry are all going up as well, but the number of workers just isn’t there.
